00 The Multi HID Input Application. Note the list of currently connected devices that you can connect to (gamepads, Gametrak, Wiimote, etc).

01 The Channel defaults to 1. It will determine what channel the device information will be sent to and is later used in MovieSandbox.

02 Press the Select Button to connect to the selected device in the list (in this example we connect to an XBOX360 Controller for Windows).

03 Note the changing number in the right corner when you move the joystick sticks around. If the numbers change accordingly, you succesfully connected to the device and are now sending information to the specified channel.

Controlling Characters Live in Moviesandbox with Windows Input devices

You can find MultiHIDInput.exe in your Moviesandbox directory in a folder called 'MSBTools' or get it from the Downloads page.

Working with Devices

Multi HID Input allows the communication of an Input device such as a joypad or a WiiMote with Moviesandbox. As for now, i would advise testing a simple gamepad or joystick. WiiMote and Gamtrak testing will be explained soon.

  1. Connect a Gamepad.
  2. Open Multi HID Input - the gamepad should be listed in the white box.
  3. set the Channel to 1
  4. Hit the Connect Button - you should see numbers appear on the text box on the right that correspond to the state of the gamepad.
  5. Open Moviesandbox with the DM-1on1-Albatross level (for a start).
  6. Place a standrad Unreal Pawn.
  7. If you never created a pose, try and do that now. Look here if you don't know how.
  8. Right click on your Pawn.
  9. select UdpPadChannel and type in 1.
  10. select Pad
  11. click on the Button 1 and select a Pose.
  12. De-select by clicking on an empty part of the screen.
  13. hit space to start the movie.
  14. press the button corresponding to 1 and see if the character takes the pose youo assigned.
  15. repeat for different buttons and poses.
